Student Service Learning

New for Fall 2020

A day-based service learning program designed for grades 11 and 12. Students will make meaningful contributions to real-world environmental stewardship projects, and come away with new skills and an understanding of how and why their volunteer efforts make a difference. Stewardship activities at Cheakamus Centre may include restoration planting, invasive species removal, nature trail maintenance, or salmon hatchery tasks such as egg takes and the raising and releasing of fry.

The Service Learning Program will provide the continuity and valuable leadership experience of the Outdoor School Counsellor Program while Outdoor School programming is temporarily suspended due to COVID-19. The Service Learning Program is structured for small group learning, with group sizes limited to 12 students from the same secondary school.

Cheakamus Centre’s enhanced COVID-19 health and safety protocols comply with BC’s provincial health officer and North Vancouver School District’s recommendations and guidelines.
