General Programming (not Outdoor School)
- Where do the students sleep?
Students sleep in rustic heated log cabins. Cabins are equipped with bunk beds and shared bathrooms and sleep up to 17 people in 2-3 separate rooms.
- How many chaperones do you require schools to bring?
It is recommended that schools provide 1 supervisor (teacher, staff, parent) per 10 students. Supervisors are complimentary for every 10 students, while additional staff are subject to approval by Cheakamus Centre and will be charged 50% of the regular program fee.
- Will our group have the site to ourselves?
Probably not but it's likely you won't notice! We have an expansive site of 165 ha with 3 separate residential programming areas allowing us to offer a variety of concurrent programs. It's common for smaller groups staying in our cabins to share space and eat together in our ELC dining area however the programming is generally scheduled separately.
- Do you provide transportation to Cheakamus Centre?
We do not provide transport and this is the responsibility of individual schools. We do have a recommended operator and can provide their contact information on request.
- Do you accommodate special dietary needs?
Yes, our talented culinary team is able to meet a wide array of special dietary needs. All dietary requirements need to be communicated in advance to Cheakamus Centre via our Medical and Dietary form.
- Can teachers or school staff visit Cheakamus Centre prior to their school's booking or arrival?
Yes, we encourage teachers or administrative staff to arrange a site tour particularly if it's the 1st time booking a program. Appointments may be made through our program staff email at programs@cheakamuscentre.ca.
- How accessible is Cheakamus Centre?
We are able to cater to a wide range of mobility issues. All of our buildings are wheelchair accessible and we have elevator access in the Environmental Learning Centre. As much of our site is located on a flood plain, most of our trails are easily accessed.
