General Programming (not Outdoor School)

Who can attend Cheakamus Teen Camp?

Camp is open to youth ages 13 to 15, or students currently in grades 8 and 9. No prior outdoor experience is needed—just a willingness to participate and try new things.

What are the camp dates and times?

Camp runs from August 6 to August 8, 2025.

Drop-off: 9:00am-10:00am

Pick-up: 3:30pm-4:30pm

Please arrive within the designated drop-off window to ensure a smooth start to the day.

Where is the camp located?

Cheakamus Teen Camp takes place at Cheakamus Centre in Paradise Valley, just north of Squamish. We are located at 1600 Paradise Valley road. Follow signs to the ELC (Environmental Learning Centre).

What activities will campers participate in?

Campers will enjoy a mix of outdoor and cultural activities, including:

- Canoeing

- Hiking

- Survival skills and orienteering

- Archery

- Challenge games

- Nature-based art projects

- Animal care with our Cheakamus goats, chickens and pigs

- Traditional teachings in our teaching Coast Salish longhouse

- Campfire activities and evening games

Activities are led by experienced facilitators and designed to promote personal growth, teamwork, and connection to the land.

Do you accommodate special dietary needs?

Yes, our talented culinary team is able to meet a wide array of special dietary needs. All dietary requirements need to be communicated in advance to Cheakamus Centre via our Medical and Dietary form.

What meals are provided?

Nutritious and kid-friendly meals and snacks are prepared fresh onsite by the Cheakamus culinary team. We accommodate common dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.). Please fill out the dietary form during registration so we can prepare for your specific needs.

How accessible is Cheakamus Centre?

We are able to cater to a wide range of mobility issues. All of our buildings are wheelchair accessible and we have elevator access in the Environmental Learning Centre. As much of our site is located on a flood plain, most of our trails are easily accessed.

Is financial assistance available?

We believe every young person should have the chance to experience the magic of Cheakamus Youth Camp—regardless of financial circumstances. To apply, simply complete our short bursary form and send it in before registering. A limited number of bursary spaces are available, so early applications are encouraged.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

Campers will sleep in shared cabins with supervising staff staying in adjacent cabins. There are no supervisors in the cabins. If your child has a preferred bunk-mate, please list their first and last name on the registration form. Information on our cabins can be seen here: https://cheakamuscentre.ca/rentals/accommodation

Who are the camp staff?

Our staff includes experienced outdoor educators, youth program leaders, and Cheakamus Centre trainers. All staff undergo background checks and are certified in first aid. We maintain a low camper-to-staff ratio to ensure safety and connection.

How does Cheakamus Centre handle safety?

Camper safety is our top priority. Our team follows strict safety protocols and is trained in emergency response. We conduct daily health check-ins and maintain close supervision during all activities.

Can my child attend with a friend?

Yes! Friends are welcome to register together. We do our best to accommodate cabin mate requests—just include this in your registration form.

Will there be photos or updates during camp?

We try to capture the magic of camp and will share selected photos with families post-program. To support camper presence and privacy, we do not offer live updates during the camp session.

What should my teen bring?

A full packing list will be provided upon registration. It includes clothing for all weather, sleeping gear, toiletries, and any personal items. No electronics, please—we encourage campers to unplug and be fully present.
