Experience Nature and First Nations Culture in Canada
Discover the wonders of the natural Canadian landscape, while sharing the beauty and vibrancy of Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) First Nation culture. Experience all Cheakamus Centre has to offer with single and multi-day programming specially designed for international student groups. At Cheakamus, students explore both the natural beauty and indigenous cultural significance of the Ch’iyákmesh (Cheakamus) River Valley. Students have an opportunity to learn hands-on about critical environmental habitat and ecology, and to experience traditional culture and practices of the Ch’iyák-mesh people in and around an authentic Coast Salish longhouse.
As educators, we believe that a place-based approach promotes engagement and achievement through hands-on experiences in nature. We invite you and your students to find meaningful and engaging learning connections while exploring our ecological reserve. One-Day Blended Program
Over the course of a single day, students explore both the natural beauty and indigenous cultural significance of the Cheakamus River Valley. Students learn about critical environmental habitat and ecology, while experiencing traditional Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) First Nation culture and practices.
“Our Japanese students would not have had the wonderful experience they did at your center if it wasn’t for the incredible Cheakamus Centre nature tour guides and the individuals from Squamish Nation facilitating the program. It was especially great to receive such positive feedback from our teachers that students had the unique opportunity to learn a bit about BC First Nations [Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish)] culture while in Canada, particularly because they only expected to study English while in Vancouver. Thank you so much!”
